Deerfield Beach, FL (April 2016) – A double murder in Hallandale Beach, Florida, in January 2013 left police and investigators with little evidence. In a renewed effort to track down the suspects, Hallandale Beach police employed a new methodology using DNA from the crime scene to give them additional clues in this senseless crime perpetrated on two retired snowbirds from Canada.

DNA Labs International, a private forensic DNA lab in Broward County, Florida, processed the DNA evidence from the scene. Parabon NanoLabs, a DNA Phenotyping service based in Virginia, was able to derive a composite of the suspect from the DNA extract produced at DNA Labs International.

DNA Labs International specializes in forensic casework analysis using the latest technologies, including their mini-STR analysis which allows DNA labs to develop a full DNA profile from a contact imprint, or low-level or degraded sample. The Hallandale Beach case had very little DNA evidence available. DNA Labs International, using sequencing and fragment analysis along with their proprietary software, were able to develop the DNA extract. Parabon NanoLabs DNA Phenotyping Service Snapshot™ then analyzed the DNA extract to accurately predict the physical appearance and ancestry of an unknown person. The composite profile in the Hallandale Beach case provides investigators with new information on the appearance of one of the two female suspects in the case.
