Dr. Steven Armentrout, President of Parabon® NanoLabs, to Present at Emirates International Forensic Conference and Exhibition

Dr. Armentrout will present “Objective Evaluation of a Comprehensive DNA Phenotyping System” on 10 April 2018 at the Sheikh Maktoum Hall in Dubai.

Reston, Va. (April 2018) – Parabon® NanoLabs, a vertically integrated DNA technology company that develops next-gen forensic and therapeutic products, is pleased to announce that its President Dr. Steven Armentrout, will be presenting during the Emirates International Forensic Conference and Exhibition, held at the Sheikh Maktoum Hall, Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center in Dubai from 9 – 11 April 2018. Dr. Armentrout will be presenting a lecture entitled “Objective Evaluation of a Comprehensive DNA Phenotyping System” on the second day of the exhibition.

DNA phenotyping, a relatively new area of forensic genetics, predicts a person’s physical appearance from a DNA sample by analyzing a large array of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).  With the introduction of the Parabon Snapshot® DNA Phenotyping Service (“Snapshot”) in 2015, DNA now serves as a genetic witness, and provides a great deal of information about the source, including detailed biogeographic ancestry, eye color, hair color, skin color, freckling and face morphology.  In this lecture, Dr. Armentrout will share results from criminal investigations that have been solved using Parabon’s Snapshot technology and discuss the results from a blind evaluation study.

Dr. Steven Armentrout

Dr. Armentrout has nearly 30 years’ experience designing high-performance computing solutions to solve large-scale problems in a wide range of domains, ranging from proteomics and climate modeling to nanotechnology design, and bioinformatics. He initiated the development of Snapshot at Parabon in 2010 with funding from the United States Department of Defense and led the commercialization of the service to law enforcement in January 2015. His research has been published in scientific and technical journals, including Science magazine, Neural Computation, BioData Mining and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.  He earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.

The Emirates International Forensic Conference & Exhibition is the region’s largest event on Forensic Science and Forensic Medicine. The theme for the 2018 conference is “Science Serving Justice.” Organized by INDEX Conferences & Exhibitions Org.
