Reston, Va. (5 July 2016) –  Snapshot™, the latest in forensic DNA analysis technology for criminal investigators, will be explored in a special broadcast on Crime Wire Radio on 6 July at 9 p.m. ET.  Dr. Ellen McRae Greytak, Director of Bioinformatics at Parabon, is the featured guest, discussing how Snapshot, the DNA Phenotyping Service from Parabon NanoLabs, is helping investigators generate new leads, narrow the field of suspects and identify unknown remains.  The broadcast will be streamed on www.blogtalkradio.com and can be played back at any time after the initial event.

Snapshot predicts the ancestry and appearance of a suspect by analyzing miniscule amounts of DNA, ultimately generating a composite image that includes physical characteristics such as eye, hair and skin color, freckling, facial morphology and ancestry traits. These results are currently being used across the country to aid law enforcement and criminal investigators in developing new leads in cold cases, identifying unknown remains and narrowing suspect lists, thus saving time and money for agencies in the investigation proceedings.

Snapshot took four years to develop with funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The Snapshot DNA Phenotyping Service includes the development of a prediction of physical appearance based upon the analyzed DNA and two new services are now offered, including Forensic Art Enhancement that incorporates information into the Snapshot composite such as aging, body mass, facial hair and glasses, and Facial Reconstruction, which combines DNA phenotyping with skeletal evidence to produce the most fully informed recreations of antemortem appearance.
