The National Tactical Officers Association announces the results of its recent election for Regional Directors. The newly-elected members of the Board of Directors will begin their three-year terms in January 2015. These individuals will commit to NTOA through active participation in advancing the organization’s goals and ideals of enabling law enforcement to successfully resolve life-threatening situations. Regional directors act as a liaison between NTOA members and the Board of Directors, and promote the NTOA at state and local functions, as well as serve on special committees as requested by NTOA.

NTOA congratulates Detective Jason Behun, Sergeant Bart Branyon and Sergeant Dan Murphy.

Eastern Region:

Detective Jason Behun is a seven-year veteran of the City of Cape Coral (Florida) PD and is currently assigned to the Training Unit. He is also a member of the Cape Coral PD SWAT Team and is a Team Leader and lead instructor. Prior to joining the Cape Coral PD, he worked for the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for 13 years where he was assigned to the Tactical Operations Section as a SWAT Team Leader and lead instructor for his last seven years. Det. Behun is currently a Region VI Representative for the Florida SWAT Association and has instructed tactical courses for the NTOA, FSA, PATOA and OTOA.

Central Region:

Sergeant Bart Branyon is a 20-year veteran of the Olathe (Kansas) Police Department, serving 18 years with their Tactical Support Unit. He also served as a SWAT operator, sniper, team supervisor and tactical operations center commander during that period. Sgt. Branyon is a US Department of Defense and US Department of State subject matter expert in counter-terrorism operations. He has served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain and Jordan. Sgt. Branyon is a three-time recipient of the Kansas City Metro Chiefs of Police Medal of Valor, as well as the NTOA’s 2005 Individual Award for Valor.

Western Region:

Sergeant Dan Murphy is a 30-year veteran of law enforcement and currently serves with the Fort Collins Police Services in Colorado. He is currently assigned to SWAT Operations as the SWAT Sergeant full-time. Sgt. Murphy has been an NTOA instructor since 1999 and currently teaches Basic/Advanced SWAT, Less-Lethal Projectiles/FSDD/Chemical Agent instructor classes, Leadership and Commander/Team Leader courses and Active Shooter Tactics. He has been his agency’s lead instructor for active shooter and high risk tactics since 1996. He is a court-certified expert in the use and deployment of diversionary devices. In 2011, Sgt. Murphy won the prestigious John Kolman Award of Excellence from NTOA.
