Laura Burgess

Laura Burgess was born into a career Army officer’s family and spent her first eighteen years on seventeen different bases including three tours overseas. After graduation from W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia, Laura was accepted at Shippensburg University to study journalism. She transferred to the Pennsylvania State University, State College Campus, in her junior year and completed her college education with a B.A. major in advertising and a minor in journalism. She completed her MBA from the Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire in 2003.
While raising a family, Laura and her husband owned a restaurant in Westport, Connecticut and later, a children’s clothing business in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. When the children’s clothing business became a casualty of the 1990’s economic slump, she sought temporary work at the U.S. SIG SAUER headquarters in Exeter, New Hampshire. She was employed at SIG for ten years, rising from a warehouse temp position to a marketing manager before she went to work for Team Studio, a Lotus Notes Development company on the North Shore of Boston. She was responsible for creating a public relations team and building relationships within the software and tech media. She returned to SIG SAUER after one year to become SIG’s Director of Public Relations and Corporate Communications where she was responsible for all marketing strategy and development including: advertising strategy, purchasing and creative; corporate product catalogs, trade show management (includes booth and staff management), public and writer relations, website development and management, product packaging and POP, corporate sales events and sales materials.
In 2003, Laura founded what is now known today as Laura Burgess Marketing. She combined her PR and marketing experience with her industry know-how and has created a well-known PR/marketing firm within the military, law enforcement, hunting and shooting sports markets. Laura Burgess Marketing moved to New Bern, North Carolina in 2010, and relocated to St. Augustine, Florida in 2020. Laura Burgess Marketing was the first PR/marketing company to embrace social media and continues to support companies in advancing their public relations and marketing strategies.
