By November 12, 2025No Comments

The Tactical Model 89 Take Down lever-action rifle combines the portability and field-ready advantages of the Model 89 Take Down with M-LOK modularity, scout-scope mounting, and a tank-style muzzle brake.

Cody, Wyo. (November 2025) – Big Horn Armory (BHA), makers of big-bore firearms, is proud to announce it has expanded its Model 89 Take Down into the new Model 89 Take Down Tactical lever-action rifle. This new variant fuses the proven portability and serviceability of the Take Down design with modern tactical features that give shooters more options for optics, rail-mounted accessories, and recoil management.

The Take Down advantage, a heritage-inspired, quick disassembly system that breaks the rifle into compact components for transport, storage, and easier maintenance, remains central to the design. The Take Down mechanism was developed to improve portability for hunters and backcountry shooters while simplifying field maintenance and cleaning.

New Tactical additions on the Model 89 Take Down Tactical lever-action rifle include an M-LOK forend for modular attachment of lights, grips, and other rail accessories; a scout-style scope mount for forward, low optics mounting; and a tank-style muzzle brake that reduces felt recoil for improved comfort and faster follow-up shots. These Tactical features are integrated without compromising the Model 89’s big-bore performance, superior materials, and user-focused ergonomics. The Model 89 Take Down Tactical platform is built with precision-machined 17-4PH and 416 stainless steel components and engineered to handle exceptional muzzle energies, continuing Big Horn Armory’s emphasis on durability and power.

Tactical Take Down Lever Action resting on a backpack with mountains behind it”The Model 89 Take Down Tactical offers the best of both worlds: a rifle that’s easy to break down for travel and storage while remaining fully capable of mounting the accessories and optics demanded by today’s shooters,” commented Greg Buchel, founder of Big Horn Armory. “It’s a travel-ready, accessory-ready, and recoil-tamed powerhouse that brings modern capability to the classic lever-action platform.”

The Model 89 Take Down Tactical lever-action rifle joins the BHA lineup as a versatile option for hunters, backcountry shooters, and lever-action enthusiasts who want classic operating ergonomics combined with contemporary accessory compatibility. MSRP $4,199.

About Big Horn Armory:

Big Horn Armory was founded in 2008 with the expressed intention of designing a Browning-type lever-action gun chambered in 500 Smith & Wesson Magnum. The Big Horn Armory Model 89, made in America, closely follows the work of John Browning with refinements courtesy of modern metallurgy and machining capabilities. The first rifles began shipping in September of 2012, and since then, BHA has added to its big bore lineup with a Model 90 Carbine in 460 S&W, the Model 90A in 454 Casull, the Model 90B in .45 Colt, the Model 89A in 500 Linebaugh, and the Model 89B in .475 Linebaugh. In 2017, Big Horn Armory took a departure from its lever-action series and developed the AR500 Auto Max, the most powerful short-range, semi-automatic based on an AR .308 platform.
