Master Gunsmith Ken Brooks
American Gunsmithing Institute (AGI), producers of the most authoritative Gunsmithing DVD courses, is pleased to offer gunsmiths and students a Design, Function and Repair: Extractors class with Master Gunsmith Ken Brooks. The course, to be held from May 18 – 22, 2015 in Coquille, Oregon, is open to current AGI Professional Gunsmithing students only. Students must have successfully completed the Handguns section of the course prior to registration.
Extractors are the problem and / or cure for 90 percent of all feeding issues with repeating firearms of virtually any design. This AGI instructor-led course covers the design, function and repair of extractors. It will teach the students the relationship of the extractor to the ejector of the different designs. Students will be fitting extractors to various designs, as well as fabricating a .22 extractor.
Students will need to work on many differently designed extractors and are recommended to bring a 1911; a Remington 700; a rifle with a claw type of extractor, such as a Mauser 98, pre-64 Winchester Model 70, Winchester Model 70 Classic, Springfield 1903, 1917 Enfield or Arisaka, etc.; a Ruger 10/22, Ruger Standard auto or Marlin 60 series of .22’s; and a Remington 870 or 1100. Other semi-auto pistols which could be a bonus to bring but are not necessary, include: Smith & Wesson M&P series, Smith & Wesson 39-59 series, Browning Hi Power, CZ-75, CZ-52, Luger P-08 or a Mauser C-96 Broomhandle.
Each student will need to bring the basic hand tools to disassemble the above mentioned firearms. Students should bring a set of needle files, a set of diamond needle files, an American pattern file six inch bastard and an eight inch bastard; a four or six inch barrette file is nice but not a necessity.
A graduate of the renowned gunsmithing program at Lassen College, studying under Master Instructor Robert Dunlap, Ken Brooks now works full time for Dunlap and continues his journey studying under the master. Brooks is well-known for being a great design, function and repair gunsmith.
