The latest blog series from Laura Burgess Marketing, the Social Media Reload features the most popular, interesting, entertaining, and controversial content in the industry from the past week and repackages it into a quick list with fire power.

Everyone loves plinking, but not everyone (including Kirsten Joy Weiss and myself) love Peeps. In the spirit of the upcoming Easter holiday, Weiss took a bite for the team to see just how many colorful marshmallow birds it would take to stop a .22 from point-blank range. No spoilers here, but I’ll admit it was more than I thought. And if shooting candy interests you, 22plinkster takes on a line of Cadbury Eggs in his latest video, seen here.

According to FBI Uniform Crime Report data, violent crime in the U.S. has fallen by over 50 percent in the last 20 years. So why do over half of Americans believe it is on the rise? Short answer: the media. Fueled by the media-fed misperception of violence and it’s threat to fundamental human freedoms, former NRA News Commentator and film maker, Billy Johnson, recently launched a fundraising campaign on Kickstarter for his documentary film “Protecting Liberty.” With a goal of $225,000 by April 29, 2015, the film has raised nearly $19,000 in just a few days and has also garnered the support of the Firearms Policy Coalition and Second Amendment supporters alike. Protect your liberty, donate to the cause here.

Elk

NEW YORK AUTHORIZES ELK SEASON DESPITE NO ELK

If there are no elk in the forest, can you have an elk season? That’s the question Outdoor Hub posed after news of Bill S93-2015 in the New York Senate broke wind early this week. Originally drafted in 2013, the bill would “regulate taking of elk or moose in the same manner as deer hunting and trapping are currently regulated” in the state. There’s only one problem – elk have been expatriated from the state since the late 1800s. However, that hasn’t stopped Patrick Gallivan (R-Erie County) from sponsoring the bill. “What harm does it do to leave it in (the bill),” Gallivan told the New York Daily News. “We wouldn’t have an opportunity to do it now, but that doesn’t mean we would not have an opportunity in the future.”
