Social Media Reload

Every week, millions of links, photos and videos are shared on social media from brands and individuals alike. The latest blog series from Laura Burgess Marketing, the Social Media Reload, features the most popular, interesting, entertaining and controversial content in the industry from the past week and repackages it into a quick list with fire power.

Below are three of the top links, photos and videos posted on social media this week.

Chris Cheng
TOP SHOT MUSICAL TARGETS

From Google employee to History Channel Top Shot Season 4 Champion, Chris Cheng has been making noise in the marksman world since 2011. However, Cheng has been making a different type of noise this month on his Facebook Page. From “Mary Had a Little Lamb” to “Take Me Out to The Ballgame” to his most recent video upload, “The Marines’ Hymn,” Cheng has been using the Double Major 16 Deluxe Set of chimes and gongs from armory harmony company, Musical Targets. Made of AR500 steel, Musical Targets offers two full octaves of sonic range that can be shot with anything from rimfire through centerfire handgun cartridges up to .45 ACP (though .22LR is recommended) and even throw in a song book for novices. Now with Musical Targets, practicing your accuracy at the range has never sounded so good.

President Ronald Reagan

THE MYSTERIOUS CASE OF REAGAN’S .38

A bestselling thriller writer, award-winning comic book author and host of History Channel’s (I swear they’re not paying me for these plugs) series ‘Decoded,’ Brad Meltzer is no stranger to mystery. However, the latest mystery revolves around a comment Meltzer made in a recent self-published New York Daily News article. In the article, Meltzer claims while on a tour of the Secret Services Headquarters in Washington, D.C., an agent told him that President Ronald Reagan carried a .38 revolver during his presidency, hiding it in his briefcase and often taking it aboard Air Force One. However, according to Secret Service spokeswoman Nicole Mainor, “we don’t know where Meltzer is getting his information.” Reagan’s own assistant, who frequently traveled with the President, says “the Secret Service absolutely did not issue Reagan a gun to carry.” Historians also find the idea far-fetched, but there was an assassination attempt in 1981 that may have persuaded Reagan, generally remembered as a Second Amendment supporter, to carry. Who do you believe?

President Obama
OBAMA’S ATTACK ON GUN TALK

On a serious note, chances are by now you’ve heard about the latest attempt by the Obama administration to clamp down on our rights. Earlier this week, the Federal Registrar noted proposed changes to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), a document which restricts what gear, technology and information can be exported outside the United States. Those changes however, could potentially take those restrictions to the next level, changing definitions of words such as “technical data.” Such a change could eliminate the right to disperse firearm specifications and reviews online. It should be noted that while the complications of these changes is mere speculation at this point, it shows a continued stance by the Federal government to restrict our freedom to communicate. Stand up for your rights, submit a comment to the State Department via email to DDTCPublicComments@state.gov with subject line “ITAR Amendment—Revisions to Definitions; Data Transmission and Storage.” Comments will accepted until August 3, 2015.
