Social Media Reload

Every week, millions of links, photos and videos are shared on social media from brands and individuals alike. The latest blog series from Laura Burgess Marketing, the Social Media Reload, will feature the most popular, interesting, entertaining, and controversial content in the industry from the past week and repackages it into a quick list with fire power.

Below are four of the top links, photos and videos posted on social media this week.

XM42: THE HANDHELD FLAMETHROWER

Advertised as the world’s first commercially available handheld flamethrower, there has been no hotter (pun intended) topic on social media this week than the X42 from Ion Productions. What started as an Indiegogo campaign soon spread like wildfire (sorry, can’t help myself) across the web, quickly surpassing its fundraising goal of $40,000 in less than three days. However, the campaign has not been without it’s share of negative feedback. The XM42 retails for $699 and is currently legal in at least 48 states.

In the past year, trophy hunting has become the latest source of controversy on social media, but now there’s an app dedicated to hunting, firearms and the outdoors built on a community photo sharing platform similar to Instagram by the name of CAMOphoto. For hunters, by hunters, the app currently sports more than 60,000 users, or “trackers” as the app calls them, and is growing steadily. There’s also a sister app, REELphoto, dedicated to fishing enthusiasts, though it has yet to catch on. Both mobile apps are available for free download on Android and iOS devices.

NEW GLOCK 43, DESIGNED FOR CONFIDENCE

After years of begging by customers, GLOCK finally announced the release of its first single stack 9mm pistol, the G43, last week. Rumors began swirling after GLOCK posted a suspicious photo on their Facebook Page earlier this month, but those rumors soon became fact when multiple reviews leaked and the company gave the green light to open the floodgates just days before their anticipated announcement. At 6.26-inches long, 4.25-inches tall, 1-inch wide, and weighing just under 18 ounces with an empty magazine, the new G43 9x19mm has a capacity of 6+1 rounds and is being marketed as the ideal concealed carry firearm for people of all lifestyles.

If you’re a fan of ‘The Walking Dead,’ this clip from last week’s episode (“Try”) should look familiar. However, what you might have missed was the night vision rifle optic used by Sasha while watching zombies from the clock tower. Though the scene is dark and the logo can only be partially seen for a split second, the scope has been identified as the Aries MK 350 Guardian from ATN Corp. Watch the full episode online and catch the 90-minute season finale of ‘The Walking Dead’ this Sunday at 9/8c, only on AMC.
