Social Media Reload

Gone are the days of newspapers, magazines and network television. Social media is today’s top source for news, entertainment and information. But with the quick pace of trending topics and 140-character updates, unless you live online, you’re bound to miss something. Luckily for you, that’s my job. The Social Media Reload features the most popular, interesting, entertaining and controversial content in the firearms and outdoors industry from the past week and repackages it into a quick list with a bang. Read on and see what you missed this week.

Shooting clays at the range or in the backyard too boring for you? Then, try shooting them out of a spinning Ferrari SA Aperta—like Philip Thorrold. A world-class sporting shooter and professional shooting instructor from England, Thorrold recently launched a YouTube channel this summer appropriately titled “Philip Thorrold – Extreme Shooting.” And while he has only uploaded three videos, none of them fail to live up to the name of the channel. Watch as Thorrold takes on exploding clay targets from the seat of a jumping Polaris RZR and $400,000 Ferrari SA Aperta, as well as flying right at him. It’s safe to say that, well, none of these are safe practices when shooting, but that’s why Thorrold is the professional. (via Outdoor Hub)

How many 22plinksters does it take to screw in a light bulb? That, we don’t know, but we do know how many bulbs a .22LR bullet will go through. Plinkster is at it again, this time with 30 old light bulbs he replaced from his new home with more efficient LED bulbs. And instead of just throwing them away like a normal person, plinkster decided to put them to good use. Armed with a Henry Golden Boy and CCI Stinger round, 22plinkster takes aim and quickly answers his question. We won’t spoil the video for you, but we were surprised by how “few” it took to finally stop the bullet. Make a guess before watching the video yourself. (via Guns.com)

MLunt NEVER TOO OLD TO HUNT
For those lucky enough to have grandparents living, chances are good you won’t find them hiking seven miles in the wilderness on a bull elk hunt. Chances are also good your grandmother is not 82-year-old Margaret Elaine Lunt of Grantsville, Utah. Lunt recently landed her first bull elk, an 8-year-old 6×6 in Utah with her son and a guide. Growing up, Lunt enjoyed tagging along with her father on deer hunts and “seeing some of the most beautiful sights out hunting.” However, it wasn’t until she was 55 years old that a family member encouraged her to finally purchase her own rifle and start hunting herself. Since then, she’s hunted mule deer and cow elk over the years, before taking down the big bull. “I was quite pleased that I can do that at my age,” Lunt told KSL.com. “It was unbelievable to see him there and think, ‘Oh, I did it. I got him.'” (via Outdoor Hub)
