Social Media Reload

Gone are the days of newspapers, magazines and network television. Social media is today’s top source for news, entertainment and information. But with the quick pace of trending topics and 140-character updates, unless you live online, you’re bound to miss something. Luckily for you, that’s my job. The Social Media Reload features the most popular, interesting, entertaining and controversial content in the firearms and outdoors industry from the past week and repackages it into a quick list with a bang. Read on and see what you missed this week.

Best known for their basketball trick shots and crazy competitions, the guys of Dude Perfect are also avid hunters. Teaming up with Bass Pro Shops, the guys take on 20 different hunting stereotypes from the classic to the outlandish in the spirit of a new hunting season, including the “white liar gun buyer,” “noisy Ned,” “decoy overload,” “the noob,” and “Mr. Hardcore.” Love ’em or hate ’em, we all know them, so why not poke fun at ourselves? Don’t be one of these guys or gals this hunting season, and while you’re at it, watch these fishing stereotypes for good measure too. (via Outdoor Hub)

You won’t find any ranges like this in the States. Sandwiched between Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, Cambodia is home to the Extreme Outdoor Shooting Range where for $350 you can shoot 40-year-old Chinese and Soviet rocket-propelled grenades! Tack on another $230 and you can shoot said RPG at a small bamboo structure with a gas tank inside for a movie-like explosion. Other firearms and targets are also available. Not surprisingly, the ranges in Phnom Penh have grown in popularity over the years as videos like that above are uploaded online, offering once-in-a-lifetime experiences and encouraging range goers to shoot and yell like Rambo. Recently, bears have taken both the woods and Internet by storm. From eating kayaks in Alaska (see video above) to the hair off the head of a sleeping hunter in Idaho, climbing tree stands in Minnesota to attacking bowhunters in Montana, bears have had a busy fall across the country. Luckily, everyone involved in the events just mentioned survived without major injury, but it just goes to show the unpredictability of the species—and wild animals in general. Be bear aware this hunting season and follow these tips for hunting in bear country.
