Grand Power X-Calibur

This is not to be a tale of a young champion pulling a sword from a stone to become a great king, but rather an interesting, innovative new pistol to grace US soil.  The Grand Power X-Calibur has received a lot of hype lately as it has been recently introduced to the US.  Grand Power first made its presence known in the United States in 2008 when STI imported the K100 under the name STI GP6.  The GP6 became quite popular amongst IPSC and USPSA shooters for its tracking, accuracy, and reliable shooting capabilities.  The patented rotating barrel locking systems minimizes felt recoil and muzzle rise allowing for faster split times and transitions.

Now comes the X-Calibur, the “Holy Grail” of Grand Power pistols and potentially… the next big thing for competitive shooters across the country. It retains all the features of Grand Power that the customers love, but has improved the platform to make it an “out of the box” beautiful, potentially “game-changing” pistol for competitive shooters. You may be asking yourself why she said potentially “game changing”.  That my friends is because I have only had the X-Calibur for a few weeks.  I firmly believe that a gun must be run hard, through various situations and environments before any decisions and solid reviews can be determined.

It is a great out of the box gun. Seriously, take it out of the box, load your magazines and go!  I really like the side-adjustable steel Elliason rear sight and front sight post.  The only thing I would change is the fiber optic to green (I don’t like red fiber optic, personal preference).  The trigger is much better than other production guns out of the box.  I have yet to modify the trigger, but I know that with a little tinkering it will be to the weight of pull I prefer.  I will say the X-Cal is very natural and easy to shoot, even for someone who has been used to shooting M&Ps and Glocks for years.  It is accurate, and transitions easily, though we have not gone beyond 15 yards (that is coming up soon).  I really like how the slide will auto-forward from slide lock when a new magazine is inserted.  My Dan Burwell Custom M&P does that, and needless to say I have become very used to that feature.  The recoil reduction and lack of muzzle rise are noticeable within the first shots. Needless to say this is a very fun gun to shoot!  I need to play with the extra recoil springs included and match them to the current load I am running.  Taking the X-Cal apart is definitely much different than any other gun I have ever seen, but thanks to YouTube you can quickly learn how.  Speaking of YouTube Check out the video my husband and I made the first day, straight out of the box!

I am still waiting on more magazines, holster, and mag pouches, so stay tuned….as there is much more to come.  As I run the X-Calibur through the trials and tribulations of competition I will continue to report on the features, the ups, the downs, and any upgrades or modifications done.

This X-Calibur is much better than a sword!
