Parabon® NanoLabs to Attend the International Symposium on Human Identification (ISHI30)

Parabon® to exhibit at Booth 124, and its Chief Genetic Genealogist, CeCe Moore, will deliver a presentation during ISHI30 in Palm Springs, California, Sept. 23 – 26, 2019.

Reston, Va. (September 2019) – Parabon® NanoLabs, a vertically integrated DNA technology company, invites attendees of the International Symposium on Human Identification (ISHI30) to stop by booth 124 to meet some of its genetic genealogy team members, learn about its suite of Snapshot® DNA Analysis Services and participate in a demo of the Fx™ Forensic Analysis Platform.

CeCe Moore, Parabon’s Chief Genetic Genealogist, will present a session entitled “Unraveling the Twisted Case of Angie Dodge,” on Wednesday 25 September 2019 from 2:35 p.m. to 3:05 p.m. during the symposium. Moore’s session will focus on the genetic genealogy performed in the 1996 Angie Dodge cold case and provide insight into some of the twists and turns encountered.

Dr. Mark Wilson, Parabon’s Director of Forensic Sciences, will be at Parabon’s booth providing demonstrations of the Fx Forensic Analysis Platform, a revolutionary new software solution for forensic analysis of DNA and other large-scale “omics” data. From targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) for identity matching to whole-genome SNP microarray panels for ancestry and phenotype determination, the Fx platform offers a powerful yet user-friendly environment for importing, storing, analyzing and reporting on complex forensic datasets. Fx is vendor agnostic, allowing raw data to be imported from virtually any forensic instrument, and its extensible plugin architecture enables a wide collection of forensic apps to interoperate seamlessly under a consistent user interface.

Since May 2018 Parabon has provided information to law enforcement agencies that have led to the resolution of over 60 of the most violent cases imaginable. Parabon’s Snapshot services include:

Snapshot Genetic Genealogy: This service is the combination of genetic analysis with traditional historical and genealogical research to study family history. For forensic investigators, it can be used to identify remains by tying the DNA to a family with a missing person or to point to the likely identity of a perpetrator.

Snapshot DNA Phenotyping: This service produces predictions of ancestry and appearance from a DNA sample and includes a composite image.  It is ideal for cases where there are no genetic genealogy matches. With an in-depth Snapshot Composite Report investigators can focus their investigation and operate more efficiently.

Snapshot Kinship Inference: Unlike traditional forensic DNA methods, which are extremely limited in their ability to determine kinship past parent/child relationships, Snapshot can detect relatedness out to 9th-degree relatives (fourth cousins). If there is any suspicion whatsoever as to whether a family member may be involved in a crime against a victim, this single inexpensive test can be used to include or exclude the victim’s entire biological family, potentially saving months of investigative legwork.

Snapshot Mixture Deconvolution:  An optional process to improve Snapshot results for a highly mixed DNA sample having two contributors: one unknown (primary) contributor and one known (minor) contributor.

ISHI30 will be held at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, California, Sept. 23 – 26, 2019. ISHI is the largest annual meeting focused entirely on DNA forensics, providing opportunities to connect with industry leaders, exhibitors in the field, and over 900 attendees. The symposium features two and a half days of General Sessions talks featuring industry leaders and emerging technologies. Attendees have access to two scientific poster sessions including over 120 presentations. ISHI also includes an exhibit hall featuring 50+ vendors in the forensic field introducing the latest products from around the world. Finally, for more in-depth training, full and half-day workshops are held before and after the symposium.
