Revision Batlskin™ Head Protection System Wins DSEi Innovation Challenge

By September 28, 2011No Comments

Revision Military, the recognized global leader in ballistic and laser eye protection, wins the DSEi Innovation Challenge with its new Batlskin Modular Head Protection System. Of the nearly 50 innovators competing in the challenge, Revision was one of six finalists to present their work to an expert panel of judges at the DSEi exhibit. The Batlskin Head Protection System won the challenge for being the most innovative new concept with the potential to make a significant contribution to global defence and security. The UK’s Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence, Lord Astor of Hever, presented Revision’s Richard Coomber, Director of Soldier Systems, with the award.

“The innovation shown by Revision in creating such an efficient, light-weight helmet system is impressive,” stated Lord Astor of Hever. “The MOD is constantly seeking ways to engage with companies – however large or small – which can bring novel ideas to support the UK’s Defence and Security. The Innovation Challenge provided one such opportunity and I congratulate Revision on a much deserved award.”

“It’s an honor to be recognized as DSEi’s lead innovator,” commented Jonathan Blanshay, CEO of Revision. “With the Batlskin Head Protection System, we’re not ‘just’ accessorizing the helmet; we’re deconstructing and re-designing the helmet system as a whole, while reinventing manufacturing processes with lighter weight, higher performing materials. Then we’re minimizing blast and blunt force trauma with a sophisticated helmet liner and retention harness. Lastly, headborne devices like the Front Mount, Visor and Mandible Guard provide added modularity, capability and protection. It’s an integrated full-system approach unlike any our military customers have utilized before. We believe Batlskin will revolutionize soldier head protection in the decades to come.”

The first fully integrated and fully modular solution of its kind, the Batlskin Head Protection System provides industry-leading protection from blunt force, blast and ballistic threats. Entirely scalable and modular, this equipment provides soldiers with the unique ability to quickly armor up and down as the threat environment dictates. Such a system could help reduce the near 30% of battlefield injuries that occur to the head, face and neck. It could also help prevent traumatic brain injury (TBI) – a signature injury of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Revision’s fully integrated, fully modular Batlskin Head Protection System features an advanced helmet shell, liner and retention system with a universal attachment mount for visor, mandible guard and NVG use.
