The American Kennel Club describes the personality of Belgian Malinois as “smart, confident, hardworking, and steadfastly loyal.” While no one is denying the latter three characteristics, they may want to reconsider “smart” after hearing this story. Late last month, Larry Brassfield of Mountain Home, AR took his dog, named “Benno,” to the veterinarian after vomiting twice one morning. But it wasn’t the vomit itself that worried Brassfield, it was what was in it – live .308 Winchester ammunition. An X-ray later revealed Benno, who has a history of attempting to eat bizarre items, had in fact chewed and swallowed 23 total rounds of the ammunition Brassfield had left in a bag on his bedroom floor. In the end, veterinarian Dr. Sarah Sexton removed 16 of the rounds from Benno, leaving nature to take care of the rest. As for Brassfield, “I won’t be leaving ammunition laying around anymore, I can tell you that.” (via The Baxter Bulletin)

THE ROAD TO RECOVERY (AND SHANKIN’)

Brian “Pigman” Quaca is as resilient as they come. After a horrible single-vehicle accident nearly cost him his life this past December, Quaca has been on the road to recovery, itching to get back out shankin’. Featured on the June cover of Peterson’s Bowhunting, the Pigman discusses the accident, physical therapy, support from fans, and remaining difficulties in an exclusive interview with the magazine. Quaca also did a recent interview with Ammoland.com. With a new outlook on life best summarized as “Live. Laugh. Shank.”, hogs better be on high alert because the Pigman is back. Make sure to catch a two-part special on Quaca’s road to recovery entitled “Pigman Rising” on the Sportsman Channel, June 7 and June 14, 2015 at 8 p.m. ET.

For any man, protecting below the belt is a top priority. Jeremiah Raber, owner and founder of Nutshellz, is taking that protection to the next level with a new groin protector, also known as a “cup.” Inspired by a 2006 UFC match in which then-Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes was kicked in the groin twice, Raber sold his truck and set out to create a more protective cup. Advertised as “the world’s strongest athletic cup,” Nutshellz are made of layered carbon fiber, Kevlar and Dyneema, an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, and live up to the expectations. However, while the ability to stop bullets wasn’t intentional, Nutshellz has since expanded its market beyond athletes to law enforcement and military with two levels of armor groin protection. If you want to “protect what’s inside,” donate to the Nuttshellz Kickstarter campaign. (via Outdoor Hub)
