Social Media Reload

Gone are the days of newspapers, magazines and network television. Social media is today’s top source for news, entertainment and information. But with the quick pace of trending topics and 140-character updates, unless you live online, you’re bound to miss something. Luckily for you, that’s my job. The Social Media Reload features the most popular, interesting, entertaining and controversial content in the firearms and outdoors industry from the past week and repackages it into a quick list with a bang. Read on and see what you missed this week.

Who needs a hammer when you have a gun? That’s the challenge one fan recently proposed to professional shooter and chief power plant operator Patrick E. Kelley. Kelley, living up to his promise, took to the local gun range to attempt to drive a nail into a wood 2×4 with a Grand Power X-Calibur pistol. With a rotary locking, fluted bull barrel, the X-Calibur is perfect for target shooting. Apparently, if you’re a good shot like Kelley, the Grand Power pistol also makes a great nail driver. Watch the video as Kelley hits the nail dead on from 10 yards away, driving it into and clear through the board. While we don’t suggest building your home with a gun, we have to admit it would be pretty fun.

To look, or not to look when reholstering, that is the question. Students are often taught in combat shooting classes to not look down at their holsters when reholstering in order to keep both their eyes and their guard up. This is especially true in law enforcement where threats change, and consequently, an officer’s decision to use or not use deadly force changes. However, as retired U.S. Marine infantryman and combat weapons master instructor Daniel Shaw quickly explains in this video with Funker Tactical and GunsAmerica, it’s okay to look at your holster depending on the situation, such as the context here where the armed citizen is likely carrying inside the waist band with clothing covering the holster. “If I still needed this gun and I couldn’t take my eyes off the world right here for a second to look at my holster for half a second, I shouldn’t be putting my gun back in the holster to begin with.” (via Funker Tactical)

Basic handgun training courses for first-time shooters can last upwards of four hours or more, but can you teach someone the basics of handgun marksmanship in 60 seconds or less? That was the goal of Andrew Tuohy from VuurwapenBlog. The video, exactly 60 seconds long, runs through everything from grip to presentation, sight alignment and trigger control in layman’s terms using a GLOCK 19. As the video’s description reads, “This video is not a substitute for proper instruction from a qualified instructor…It’s probably better”—and Tuohy’s probably right. While you may be a master marksman already, the video is great for that friend or family member who is just learning or considering making that exciting first purchase. (via Guns.com)
