Social Media Reload

Gone are the days of newspapers, magazines and network television. Social media is today’s top source for news, entertainment and information. But with the quick pace of trending topics and 140-character updates, unless you live online, you’re bound to miss something. Luckily for you, that’s my job. The Social Media Reload features the most popular, interesting, entertaining and controversial content in the firearms and outdoors industry from the past week and repackages it into a quick list with a bang. Read on and see what you missed this week.

What do you do with thousands of rounds of old ammunition from WWII? In the latest crazy video to come out of Russia, 2,000 “corrosive” and “useless” cartridges used by Russian soldiers in the second World War are destroyed in a controlled demolition. Contained in a chimney of sorts, the demolition starts off slow, the rounds sounding like explosive popcorn cooking in a kettle, but quickly escalates to what can only be described as an airplane takeoff with flames as the pressure escapes before finally dying out. The video lasts just a minute and a half and sounds like more than a couple thousand rounds, but we’ll just take their word for it.

Earlier this summer, we told you about the AquaDrone, a flying sonar fish finder and more. The Kickstarter campaign was never funded, but that hasn’t stopped people like farmer Derek Klingenberg (known for his “What Does The Farmer Say” parody video) from fishing from the air. In his latest video, Klingenberg takes his drone fishing for the first time out on the lake and after a couple attempts, lands his first catch. Of course, the moment wouldn’t be complete without documenting the catch on Snapchat. We just hope he released the fish back so it has a story to tell its friends. (via OutdorHub)

UNDERWATER ARCHERY
Falling under the category of “impractical but cool,” Eastmans’ Hunting Journals decided to spice up their off season training with a little underwater archery. In a recent video uploaded to Facebook, Dan Carlson of Eastmans’ Hunting Journals takes a dive with his Bowtech Prodigy, draws and pops a balloon underwater. As predicted, the arrow’s velocity is slowed, but it remains reasonably accurate. Too bad summer is almost over or we might just go jump in a pool and try this for ourselves.
