Doylestown, Pa. (May 2016) – The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) is pleased to announce the spring edition of The Tactical Edge is now available. Widely considered the leading authority in tactical operations information, The Tactical Edge reaches thousands of law enforcement officers with each issue.

Featured in this issue is Ed Allen’s “Finding the Best SWAT Candidates – It’s All About the Interview.” In this article, Allen discusses how recruiting, selecting and retaining qualified personnel for tactical teams has become more challenging in recent years and explores what questions are being asked during the interview process, who is asking them and why they’re being asked.

Members-only features include Bob Ragsdale’s “The Tactical Negotiator” and Chris McConnell’s “Confrontation Avoidance.” The entire issue is available to new members online by joining NTOA.

The NTOA has also made several articles available online to nonmembers, including “Leadership by Design: Tools for Leading” by Phil Hansen. The article focuses on listening as one of the key leadership skills, and it closes with a few thoughts on the leader’s mandate to continually seek self-improvement.

Leading up to this year’s Annual Tactical Operations Conference & Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky, Sgt. A.J. DeAndrea of the Arvada (CO) Police Dept., a former member of the Jefferson County Regional SWAT (1996-2012) and NTOA lead instructor, sits down for an interview about critical incidents, team leaders and his training advice, which addresses threats that law enforcement tactical teams are currently faced with today.

Other items of interest are the director’s message by Mark Lomax, a book review from Dr. Wayman C. Mullins on “Fight or Flight: Negotiating Crisis on the Front Line” by Andrew T. Young, and an announcement of the 2015 Police Sniper Utilization Survey released by Derrick Bartlett.

The Tactical Edge is an award-winning publication that has been providing the law enforcement community with cutting edge, lifesaving information from leading experts for more than 30 years. It is published quarterly in February, May, August and November.
